Causes of cough
1. Infection of upper respiratory tract from common cold, rhinopharyngitis, sinusitis, laryngitis and the like
2. Air pollution from smoke caused by fires, smoking cigarettes and other tobacco products
3. Tumor stimulating nerve endings
4. Constriction of air passages from asthma and other breathing disorders

Prevention of cough
1. Regular exercise to maintain health
2. Drink warm water, eat three meals choosing a variety of foods including grains, vegetables, fresh fruits, fish and limited quantities of meat. The foods selected should contain vitamin C such as fruit juices, certain beans and vegetables
3. Avoid deep fried foods
4. If you smoke, quit now
5. Sleep at least 6-8 hours a day
6. Avoid air pollution where possible and reduce exposure to pollution through the use of air conditioning or masks. Protect the interior of your home from dust and dust mites
7. Promote a positive mental outlook and harmonious relation ships with others
